On June 6–7, 2022, we participated in the 5th annual EPI conference focused on the GDPR and the 2022 Personal Data Protection Act. The conference was held under the auspices of the Office for Personal Data Protection of the Slovak Republic. The conference was organized by Poradca Podnikateľa, with EPI and Eurokódex serving as co-organizers.
Since it is in our interest to provide you with the best possible services in the area of personal data protection, we strove to gather as much useful information as possible from the conference so that we can share it with you and provide you with the full scope of this information. It is essential that the issue of personal data protection be understood, in particular, by employers and employees, human resources departments, lawyers, public administration and local government entities, managers, senior staff, and executives.
Representatives from the Office for Personal Data Protection, the Labor Inspectorate, attorneys, and other GDPR experts shared their valuable practical experience with us. They focused primarily on topics related to:
- employee monitoring (whether to monitor employees and under what conditions) and the employer’s obligations when monitoring employees,
- when you can monitor your employees’ attendance,
- what the most common violations by employers are,
- how to properly set up a hiring process,
- when it is permissible to use photographs of your employees,
- what to keep in mind when processing employees’ personal data to ensure their right to privacy is not violated,
- how to use a former employee’s email address after their employment has ended.
Leading experts in the field of GDPR shared their experiences with us. Among them were, for example:
- Mgr. et. Ing. Ivana Draškovič, spokesperson for the Legal Services Department at the Slovak Data Protection Authority.
- Mgr. Martin Cach, a lawyer at the KMVS law firm, specializes in personal data protection as well as information security and cybersecurity services.
- JUDr. Marcela Macová, an expert on personal data protection issues.
- Mgr. Zuzana Motúzová, who works at the law firm Motúzová & Lacko, specializes in law firm management, contract drafting, and contract negotiation.
- JUDr. Lucia Bezáková, an expert on personal data protection.
- JUDr. Paula Babicová, who works at the health insurance company Dôvera, a.s.
- JUDr. Andrej Poruban, PhD., attorney and university professor.
