The ever-accelerating process of digitization also brings with it potential threats. Cyberattacks are occurring with increasing frequency around the world. On June 9, Japanese automaker Honda suspended production of its cars and motorcycles after falling victim to a cyberattack. Representatives of the Japanese company stated that, as a result of the cyberattack, the company lost access to its own computer servers and was unable to use email or internal systems. Honda Motor suspended operations in the United Kingdom, North America, Turkey, Italy, and Japan. The company announced that a virus had spread through its system during the external attack, but did not disclose further details. Cybersecurity experts say the criminals may have used ransomware, which means the hackers may have encrypted data or prevented Honda from accessing its IT systems.
